Chieta Bursary

The Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority (CHIETA) plays a vital role in fostering skills development in South Africa’s chemical industry. Established under the Skills Development Act of 1998, CHIETA began operations in 2000, with a vision to provide education and training aligned with global standards. One of its key initiatives, the CHIETA Bursary Programme, supports deserving students pursuing careers in the chemical and related industries.

Coverage and Benefits

The CHIETA Bursary covers tuition fees up to R76,000 per year for undergraduates and R80,000 for postgraduates. Any remaining funds can be used for prescribed books and other study-related expenses.

Who Can Apply?

To qualify, applicants must meet these criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen aged 16–35 years.
  • Have completed Matric.
  • Be enrolled full-time in one of the aforementioned fields of study.
  • Attend a recognized and accredited public tertiary institution in South Africa.

    Complete the CHIETA Bursary Application Form, available in PDF format.
  2. Prepare Supporting Documents
    Include certified copies of the following:
    • ID document
    • Matric final results
    • Latest tertiary statement of results (if applicable)
    • Proof of tertiary registration
    • Parents’/guardians’ ID documents
    • Parents’/guardians’ proof of income (salary slip, pension slip, or affidavit if unemployed)
    • Motivational letter explaining why you deserve the bursary
