NUST Requirements

If you’re planning to apply to the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), it’s important to understand the admission requirements to ensure your application is successful. NUST provides high-quality education and diverse programs, but meeting the correct criteria is crucial for your application to be considered.

Understanding the Admission Point Scale (APS)

NUST uses the Admission Point Scale (APS) to determine eligibility for different programs. Your school-leaving results are converted into points, and the total is used to assess your qualifications for a particular program. Here are some key points about the APS:

  • English is always counted in the point calculation.
  • Mathematical Literacy (NSC) is not accepted for programs requiring Mathematics.
  • The scale accommodates different certificates like:
    • NSSCH (Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate – Higher Level)
    • NSSCO (Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate – Ordinary Level)
    • HIGCSE (Higher International General Certificate of Secondary Education)
    • IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education – Advanced Level)

General Admission Requirements

For undergraduate programs, applicants need to meet the following criteria:

  • Completion of Grade 12 (or an equivalent qualification).
  • A minimum of 25 APS points (with at least 5 subjects, and no symbol lower than a ‘E’ in English).
  • English is compulsory and should be included in the calculation of APS points.

If you don’t meet the usual academic requirements but have a Junior Certificate or equivalent, you may apply through the Mature Age Entry Scheme.

Mature Age Entry Scheme

This entry option is available for applicants who:

  • Are 23 years or older by 1 January of the academic year.
  • Have completed full-time schooling at least 3 years prior.
  • Must submit appropriate entrance test results, work experience, and satisfactory references.

Successful applicants will need to pass a language proficiency test and meet specific program requirements.

Postgraduate Admission Requirements

To apply for a Master’s degree, you need:

  • A recognized 4-year Bachelor’s degree with a research component, or an equivalent qualification approved by NUST’s Senate.
  • All applications are considered on their merits by the Postgraduate Studies Committee.

Advanced Standing Admission

NUST may grant advanced standing to applicants who have:

  • Completed previous qualifications from other accredited institutions.
  • Relevant credits and competencies aligned with the desired program.

This decision is made by the Dean and Head of Department, and applicants must provide official transcripts from prior institutions.

How to Apply to NUST

You can apply in two ways:

  1. Online Application: Receive immediate confirmation and track your application’s progress.
  2. Manual Application: Download the application form and submit it at NUST’s main campus or regional centers, along with the application fee of N$220 for undergraduates or N$330 for postgraduates.

Application Fees:

  • Undergraduate: N$220
  • Postgraduate: N$330
  • Late application fee (if applicable): N$630

Important Deadlines:

  • Mature Age Entry: Closing date is 31 August.
  • All Other Applications: Closing date is 30 September.
  • Late Applications: Closing date for late applications is 30 October, but no late applications will be accepted for the Mature Age Entry Scheme.

  • Identity Document or Birth Certificate (for Namibians).
  • Passport (for non-Namibians).
  • Proof of payment (if applying manually).
  • Latest school results (for current Grade 12 learners).
  • Reference letter from your employer (for Mature Age applicants).
  • Certified copies of any prior qualifications, academic records, and syllabi (for postgraduate applicants).
  • NQA evaluation for qualifications obtained outside the SADC region (for foreign applicants).
