The Mandela coin is a coin officially launched by the South African Mint to pay tribute to Ex-president Nelson Mandela. There are currently three Mandela coins that were rolled out in 1994, 2008, and 2018. Each of these coins has its unique value. 1. Mandela Inauguration Coin – 1994
This was a coin rolled out to honor and remember the Inauguration ceremony of the first black President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela. These coins were produced in a limited quantity. Because of its value at the time, investors rushed to buy them as soon as they become available and as a result, they are no longer widely available in public circulation.
2. Mandela 90th Birthday Coin – 2008
The 90th birthday celebration of the first South African Liberation legend and the first Black President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela was honored with these coins. There were about 22 million R5 nelson Mandela coins that were produced. The R5 Mandela coin value is R150,000 according to the bid and buy list.
3. Mandela’s 100th Anniversary coin
100th birthday of the Ex-president Nelson Mandela was honored with an R5 coin in 2018. The coins that were R5 denomination were meant to be used as regular money.
