SADTU was formed to sustenance of the apartheid system was embedded in education, and hence the struggle against the regime has always been led by teacher mobilization and resistance. This struggle saw the birth of SADTU in 1990. This year, the union celebrates 24 years of its existence.
The main aim of SADTU is to eradicate all forms of discrimination in education and to strive towards a free and democratic system of education in South Africa.
