SADTU was established in 1990, in the presence of Nelson Mandela, following a directive from the ANC under teacher Oliver Tambo given in the late 1980s during the preparation of the famous Harare Declaration. We have grown from a union of 30 000 members in 1990 to 250 000 members today.
