At Sappi, we know engineering is a globally critical skill, which is why we want to encourage a continuous pipeline of brilliant engineers for the future. In line with our commitment to nurture young talent, we created the Engineer in Training (EIT) programme to inspire and train young graduates.
About the programme
Running for approximately two years, our EIT programme is aimed at graduates from different academic streams such as:
- BSc Electrical Engineering
- BSc Chemical Engineering
- BSc Mechanical Engineering
When you enrol on the programme, you will be extensively coached by expert mentors and receive technical and mill-specific training.
To ensure your learning is maximised and development opportunities are explored, you will need to fill in a continuous professional development log book for the duration of the two-year course. You will also be subject to Sappi’s internal performance management process.
We take every effort to rotate the roles and functions you undertake to allow you to experience the full spectrum of what the engineering side of the business has to offer. We also assist with registration with the ECSA and GCC (within South Africa) through continuous learner support.
Applying and employment
All applications for the EIT programme are subject to our standard recruitment process. All graduates from the relevant fields and who meet the requirements will be considered, alongside our current bursary recipients.
Our Engineers in Training receive competitive remuneration, and upon completion of the programme, are encouraged to apply for vacant positions through our usual recruitment process. Positions are dependent on availability and business requirements at the time.
