General Admission Requirements

Admission Based on School Leaving Certificates (Pre-2021)

For Undergraduate Degree Programmes, you need:

  1. Option 1:
    • Pass five different subjects:
      • 2 subjects on higher level (NSSCH) with a grade of 4 or higher.
      • 3 subjects on ordinary level (NSSCO) with a grade of C or higher.
    • English must be at a minimum of C at NSSCO level.
  2. Option 2:
    • Pass five different subjects:
      • 3 subjects on higher level (NSSCH) with a grade of 4 or higher.
      • 2 subjects on ordinary level (NSSCO) with a grade of D or higher.
    • English must be at a minimum of C at NSSCO level.

For Undergraduate Diploma Programmes, you need:

  • A pass in five different subjects with:
    • A minimum of 24 points on the UNAM Evaluation Scale.
    • English at a minimum of D at NSSCO level.

Admission Based on School Leaving Certificates (2021 Onwards)

For Undergraduate Degree Programmes, you need:

  1. Option 1:
    • Pass five different subjects:
      • 2 subjects on NSSCAS level with an average of d or higher.
      • 3 subjects on NSSCO level with a grade of C or higher.
    • English must be at a minimum of C at NSSCO level.
  2. Option 2:
    • Pass five different subjects:
      • 3 subjects on NSSCAS level with an average of d or higher.
      • 2 subjects on NSSCO level with a grade of D or higher.
    • English must be at a minimum of C at NSSCO level.

For Undergraduate Diploma Programmes, you need:

  1. Option 1:
    • Pass five different subjects:
      • 2 subjects on NSSCAS level with a minimum of e or higher.
      • 3 subjects on NSSCO level with a grade of D or higher.
    • English must be at a minimum of D at NSSCO level.
  2. Option 2:
    • Five subjects on NSSCO with a minimum of 24 points on the UNAM Evaluation Scale.
    • English must be at a minimum of D at NSSCO level.

Admission Based on Post-Secondary School Qualifications

  • Certificate Programmes: Completion of a Level 3 qualification (120 credits) on the NQF.
  • Diploma Programmes: Completion of a Level 4 qualification (120 credits) on the NQF.
  • Degree Programmes: Completion of a Level 5 qualification (240 credits) on the NQF.

Other School Leaving Certificates

Alternative recognized qualifications will be evaluated using the UNAM Evaluation Scale.

Postgraduate Admission Requirements

Postgraduate Diploma

  • A Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) from a recognized institution.

Master’s Degree

  • A Bachelor Honours degree (NQF Level 8) or equivalent with an overall grade average of at least 60%.
  • Faculty-specific requirements may apply.

Doctoral Programmes

  • A Master’s degree (NQF Level 9) from UNAM or another recognized institution in the chosen field of study.
