The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has launched a new USSD service. Taxpayers can now request specific Personal Income Tax-related services by typing in a USSD string *134*7277#
into their mobile devices. The benefits are that it is free of charge and you don’t need to have a smartphone.
Taxpayers can now request specific Personal Income Tax related services by typing in a USSD string *134*7277# into their mobile devices to SARS. The benefits are that it is free of charge and you don’t need to have smartphone or internet connectivity.
The following additional tax-related services are offered to taxpayers via the USSD channel:
- What’s my Tax number?
- Account balance
- Do I need to file a tax return?
- eBooking

- Step 1: Initiate USSD by dialing *134*7277#
- Step 2: Select the service you require
- Step 3: Taxpayer Verification – SARS will request you to complete either your,ID/Passport/Asylum Number
- Step 4: Tax Resolution – Upon successful verification by SARS, a response will be displayed.

- The USSD and SMS services are not available for tax practitioners.
- The USSD and SMS services are free of charge and only available to Individual Taxpayers for Personal Income Tax (PIT).
- The cell number used when requesting a service via USSD and SMS must be the cell number of the individual PIT profile of the taxpayer as registered on eFiling. To update your registered details, login to eFiling or SARS MobiApp.
