SANDF Recruitment: Where to Submit Your Application

To apply to the SANDF, you can submit your completed application form to the nearest SANDF Recruitment Office. The application process includes attaching necessary supporting documents.

Supporting Documents Required for SANDF Application

When applying to the SANDF, be sure to include the following certified documents:

  • A copy of your South African ID
  • A copy of your Grade 12 certificate or statement of results
  • Highest achieved qualifications (e.g., Degree, National Diploma, or N6)
  • A short CV detailing your skills and experiences

General Entry Requirements for SANDF Recruitment

The SANDF has specific entry requirements, depending on the branch and career path you choose. Below are the basic general requirements:

  1. South African Citizenship: Applicants must be South African citizens with no dual citizenship.
  2. Age Requirements:
    • 18-22 years old: Must have completed Grade 12 or N3 with six subjects (including two languages).
    • 23-26 years old: Must hold a three-year tertiary qualification (Degree, National Diploma, or N6 with N4 and N5 prerequisites).
  3. Medical Fitness: All applicants must meet the medical fitness requirements for military training.
  4. Education: Must have completed Grade 12 or equivalent, with subject choices relevant to the desired career path.
  5. No Criminal Record: Applicants must have a clean criminal record.
  6. Willingness to Relocate: You should be open to relocating and participating in deployments, both locally and abroad.

SANDF Military Skills Development Program (MSDS)

The Military Skills Development Program (MSDS) is an entry-level program designed for young South Africans interested in a military career. To qualify, you must meet the age, education, and medical fitness requirements listed above. This program offers participants the chance to gain valuable military training and skills.

The SANDF Selection Process

The SANDF has a structured selection process to ensure that only the most suitable candidates join. Here’s what the process involves:

  1. Psychometric Evaluation: Candidates undergo aptitude tests to assess their potential for development in their chosen role.
  2. Selection Board Interview: This formal interview evaluates your interest in the Defence Force, self-confidence, leadership potential, and communication skills.
  3. Medical Evaluation: Military doctors will conduct a thorough medical examination to determine your fitness for service.
  4. Criminal Record Check: Fingerprints are submitted to the Criminal Record Bureau for verification.

Offer of Employment

Successful candidates will receive an offer of employment from the SANDF. Unfortunately, not all applicants who meet the requirements will be selected due to the large volume of applications received.

Basic Military Training (BMT)

If you’re selected, you’ll need to complete Basic Military Training (BMT), which lasts around 13 weeks. This training is compulsory and covers the following areas:
