SACE Document

The SACE Document is a certification that confirms an educator’s qualifications and professional status. It is mandatory for teachers who wish to teach in South African schools, whether public or private. The registration with SACE signifies that educators meet the required professional standards and ethical codes established by the council.

Categories of Educators and Required Documentation

1. Qualified Educators with Professional Teaching Qualification (Full Registration)

To obtain full registration, you need to submit:

  • A fully completed SACE application form (Original).
  • Certified copies of your complete academic record showing your qualification and date of graduation, along with your graduation certificate.
  • For educators with Diplomas in Grade R, include a matric certificate or an ECD Level 4 certificate.
  • A certified copy of your NSC or matric certificate.
  • A certified copy of your identity document.
  • If your qualification certificate is lost, provide a declaration from your institution or the Department of Education confirming the qualification’s completion.

2. Provisional Registration (Student Educators Only)

Student educators must provide:

  • A fully completed SACE application form (Original).
  • Certified copies of NSC or matric certificates and identity documents.
  • Proof of registration for the current academic year on official university letterhead.
  • A letter of employment from a prospective/current employer in a school, detailing your involvement in teaching.

3. Individuals Without a Professional Teacher Qualification

For those without a teaching qualification, the following documents are required:

  • A fully completed SACE application form (Original).
  • Certified copies of NSC or matric certificates and your academic record.
  • Proof of registration for a PGCE for the current academic year (if applicable).
  • A letter of recommendation from a school employer.

4. Foreign Educators

If you hold foreign qualifications, you need to submit:

  • A fully completed SACE application form (Original).
  • Certified copies of your matric certificate and an original evaluation report from SAQA or DHE.
  • A certified copy of your passport and work permit.
  • A police clearance certificate (not older than six months).

5. Specific Educators (ECD, AET, FET, Montessori, Waldorf, Islamic, and Catholic)

Each of these categories has specific documentation requirements, including certified copies of relevant qualifications and identity documents, as well as letters of recommendation from employers.
