SACE CPTD

The CPTD Management System is designed to facilitate and manage professional development for educators across South Africa. SACE collaborates with various stakeholders, including teacher unions and provincial education departments, to implement this system effectively. By providing ongoing support, SACE ensures that teachers have access to professional development (PD) activities, can record their participation, and manage their CPTD points effectively.

Key Objectives of the CPTD System:

  • Facilitating Professional Development: SACE works to coordinate PD activities and provide access to a comprehensive database of approved PD providers.
  • Supporting Educators: Ongoing support is provided to help teachers sign up for the CPTD system, track their progress, and navigate the self-service portal.
  • Tracking Professional Growth: Educators can earn points through participation in endorsed CPTD activities, which are recorded and updated regularly.

Phased Implementation of the CPTD System

The CPTD system was approved for implementation by the SACE Council in November 2012. The rollout occurs in three distinct cohorts to ensure a structured approach:

1st Cohort: Principals and Deputy Principals

  • Implementation: January 2014 – December 2016
  • Purpose: The first cohort focuses on school leaders, allowing them to foster a culture of continuous development within their schools.

2nd Cohort: Heads of Departments (HoDs)

  • Implementation: January 2015 – December 2017
  • Purpose: By including HoDs, SACE ensures that experienced educators can guide their colleagues in navigating the CPTD system effectively.

3rd Cohort: Post Level 1 Teachers

  • Implementation: January 2016 – December 2018
  • Purpose: This final group of educators will benefit from the experiences and insights gained by their more senior colleagues, enhancing their engagement with the CPTD system.

How to Sign Up for the CPTD Information System

For educators to participate in their respective CPTD cycles, they must sign up on the CPTD Information System (CPTD-IS). Here’s how to do it:

Sign-Up Timeline:

  • 1st Cohort: Principals and Deputy Principals must sign up between March 1, 2013, and December 6, 2013.
  • 2nd Cohort: Heads of Departments must sign up from January 2014 to October 31, 2014.
  • 3rd Cohort: Post Level 1 Teachers must sign up from January 2015 to October 31, 2015.

Sign-Up Methods:

  1. Manual Sign-Up:
    • Fill out the manual sign-up form and submit it via postal or physical address to SACE.
  2. Electronic Sign-Up:
    • Visit the SACE website.
    • Click on the CPTD tab and select the “CPTD Self-Service Portal.”
    • Follow the prompts to enter your details and complete your sign-up electronically.

Logging into the CPTD Self-Service Portal:

Once you have signed up, you will receive your username and password. Use these credentials to log into the CPTD Self-Service Portal, where you can manage your professional development records, report issues, and update your information.
