What Can I Do With My Matric Certificate?
Matric is commonly referred to as Grade 12. It is the last year of High School for students in South Africa. After completing a Matric Qualification, students can:
- Find an entry-level job
Here are some of the entry-level jobs you can apply for:
- Call Centre Agent
- Cleaner
- Data Capturer
- Training Clerk
- Sales Assistant
- Further their studies
Most students in South Africa get their Matric Qualification to apply to a university or a college. A Matric Certificate is the minimum qualification required to gain entry into a university or college.
At Matric College, we offer Matric Courses, courses you can study with Matric and courses you can study without Matric.
- Get an internship
An internship is an opportunity for matriculants to explore the working industry. This way you can determine whether or not you want to further your education in that particular field of study. Internships allow students to network with other people and build business relationships.
They usually take between 3-12 months to complete and some employers even offer full-time employment. Most employers who offer these internship programmes give a small stipend whereas other do not give a stipend. In this case, employers reward students with work experience and allow them to build themselves in the working industry.
- Complete a learnership
A Learnership Programme is a work-based learning programme. This programme generally leads to an NQF registered qualification. These programmes are directly linked to the field of work. Learnerships is a legally binding agreement between a student, employer and a Training Provider. This is because students will learn the theory from the Training Provider and the practical component from the employer.
This means that students have a world of opportunities after completing their Matric Qualification. Students that are in their last year of High School are also known as:
- Matrics
- Matriculants
- Grade 12’s
Students that pass the last year of High School are said to have ‘matriculated” and are awarded a Matric Certificate. Find out how you can complete your Matric. Contact A Course Expert
What Are Matric Courses?
Matric Courses are courses that give students the opportunity to complete their Matric. This can range from your Traditional Matric to Adult Matric to Matric Equivalent courses.
In these courses, students learn how to become successful in the workplace. In addition to gaining entry into tertiary institutions, students can obtain a promotion at work or can apply for entry-level employment. Let us review each course we will discuss:
Adult Matric Course:
The Adult Matric Course is for students who have not completed their Matric. This could be someone who has a Grade 9, 10 or 11 Certificate. Students are generally 21 and older when they complete the course. This course can take anywhere from 1 – 3 years to complete.
Matric Upgrade Course:
The Matric Upgrade Course is for students who have already completed their Matric but have failed Matric, have an incomplete Matric Certificate or want to improve their Matric marks. This course is also for students who are 21 and older. It can take between 3 to 12 months to complete.
Matric Rewrite:
The Matric Rewrite can be both the supplementary exams or our Matric Upgrade course. The term “Matric Rewrite” is used in both cases because essentially, you are “rewriting your Matric”.
Let us look at the Matric Rewrite from a high school standpoint. You can apply for the Matric Rewrite immediately after you have received your Matric Results. You have to provide your Matric Results and be younger than 21 to apply, this course generally takes between 1-5 months to complete. The course for High School students are commonly referred to as:
- Supplementary exam
- Second chance programme
- Second national exam
- Matric Rewrite
Matric Equivalent Courses:
These courses are registered at the same NQF Level as a Matric Certificate, which is an NQF Level 4. Although they are on the same NQF Level, they are different because Matric Equivalent Certificates are industry-specific courses, which means you can start working in your field of study immediately after completing a Matric Equivalent Course.
Here is an example of the subjects you can expect in an ICB Matric Equivalent Course:
- Business Management 1
In this subject, you will learn how to manage a Business.
- Bookkeeping To Trial Balance
In this subject, you will learn how to record the financial transactions of a business
- Business Literacy
In this subject, you will learn how the different operational business functions work
It is clear that these subjects are not related to Matric and is more focused on Business Management. At Matric College, we offer two Matric Equivalent Certificates that are scarce skill qualifications. This means that the skills you learn are in demand and employers pay people with these skills a decent salary. Download A Brochure
