IUM Calendar

Dates in the IUM Academic Calendar 

First Semester:

  • January 13: All staff resume duties.
  • January 15 – February 7: Normal registration period for Semester 1.
  • January 27 – 31: Faculties meetings.
  • February 10: Academic year/teaching starts for Semester 1.
  • February 11 – 14: New students’ orientation.
  • February 12: Official opening of the academic year for all students.
  • February 28: End of registration period.
  • March 3 – 5: Academic and Research Committee meetings.
  • March 21: Public Holiday – Independence Day.
  • April 18: Public Holiday – Good Friday.
  • April 21: Public Holiday – Easter Monday.
  • April 22 – 25: Mid-semester break (student recess).
  • May 1,: Public Holiday – Workers’ Day.
  • May 12,: Teaching for Semester 1 ends.
  • May 13 – June 30: End of Semester 1 final exams.

Second Semester:

  • June 30 – July 18: Mid-year break for students.
  • July 14 – 18,: New academic staff orientation.
  • July 21,: Academic year/teaching starts for Semester 2.
  • August 26,: Public Holiday – Heroes’ Day.
  • September 22 – 26: Mid-semester break (student recess).
  • October 10: Public Holiday – Human Rights Day.
  • October 20 – November 28: End of Semester 2 final exams.
  • December 10: Public Holiday – International Human Rights Day.

Online Application Process for IUM

Prospective students can apply to IUM through its online application system. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Application Fee Payment: Before starting the online application, pay the non-refundable application fee. For undergraduate programs, the normal application fee is N$150.00 (on or before October 31, 2023), and the late application fee is N$180.00 (after October 31, 2023). Payments can be made via direct cash deposit or EFT to the university’s bank account:

    Use your initials and surname as the reference (e.g., S.E. TSUSES).

    • Certified Grade 12 certificate (or Grade 10 for mature entry).
    • Copy of birth certificate, ID, or passport.
    • One passport-sized photo.
    • Reference letter from an employer indicating years of work experience and responsibilities (if applicable).

      Prepare Required Documents: Ensure you have scanned copies of the following:

  2. Online Application: Access the online application portal through the IUM website. Complete the application form, upload the required documents, and submit your application.

  3. Registration: Upon acceptance, refer to the Registration Schedule for registration dates and procedures. Normal registration is from January 15 to February 7, with a fee of N$2100. Late registration is from February 10 to 28, with a fee of N$2200.
