To check the status of a mining permit in South Africa, you can use the SAMRAD ONLINE system. This is an online platform managed by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) that allows users to view the status of mineral rights and permits, including mining permits.
Here are the steps on how to check the status of a mining permit using SAMRAD ONLINE:
- Go to the SAMRAD ONLINE website: https://www.dmr.gov.za/samrad-online-system
- Click on the “Public Search” tab.
- In the “Search Criteria” section, select “Mining Permits” from the “Permit Type” drop-down menu.
- Enter the permit number or the name of the permit holder in the “Search Term” field.
- Click on the “Search” button.
The search results will display a list of mining permits that match your search criteria. Each permit listing will include the following information:
- Permit number
- Permit holder
- Mineral
- Area
- Status
The status of the permit will indicate whether it is pending, approved, suspended, or revoked. If the permit is approved, you can also view the conditions of the permit by clicking on the “View Permit” link.
If you do not have the permit number or the name of the permit holder, you can still search for permits by geographic location. To do this, click on the “Map Search” tab and use the map to zoom in on the area of interest. You can then click on the “Search” button to view a list of permits that are located in that area.
If you have any questions about the status of your mining permit, you can contact the DMRE at https://www.gov.za/about-government/contact-directory/departments/departments/home-affairs-department or https://www.dmr.gov.za/contact.
