How long is a PGCE degree?

The programme is offered on both a full-time basis (1 year) and a part-time basis (2 years).

The PGCE provides professional preparation for teaching Senior Phase (SP) grades 7-9 and Further Education and Training (FET, grades 10-12) phases of schooling.

Full-time students attend lectures during the day. Part-time students attend evening lectures and are registered through Wits Plus. The part-time PGCE programme is aimed at prospective teachers who hold a Bachelors degree with teaching subjects, but who work during the day. Part-time lectures take place between 17h30 – 21h00.
