What is NSFAS?

NSFAS Funding Eligibility for UNIZULU Students

- South African Citizenship: Only South African citizens are eligible for NSFAS funding.
- SASSA Grant Recipients: If you are a recipient of a SASSA grant, you are automatically eligible for NSFAS funding.

- If your combined household income is R350,000 per year or less, you qualify for NSFAS funding.
- For students with disabilities, the combined household income must not exceed R600,000 per year.

What Does NSFAS Cover?

Transport allowances will be allocated once residence placements are finalized. For those who qualify, transport allowances will be backdated from 1 February 2020.
Checking Your NSFAS Funding Status at UNIZULU
It’s essential to stay updated on your NSFAS funding status. You can do this by logging into the Student Portal (iEnabler), where you’ll find details about your funding and allowances.
If you’ve applied for NSFAS and your application has been successful, you will receive a confirmation message from the University. For students whose appeals or applications were upheld, NSFAS will ensure that the relevant allowances are issued.
However, if you are disqualified from receiving NSFAS funding, you will be notified directly via a personal message from the University, and you can also check your status on the NSFAS portal.
