How much does UNAM cost for international students?

This post will guide you through the tuition, registration, accommodation, and other associated fees for international students at UNAM.

1. Registration Fees for International Students

For international students from non-SADC countries (including South Africa), the following registration fees are applicable:

  • Registration Fees Deposit: N$1,620
  • Student Union Contribution: N$150
  • Connectivity Fees: N$575
  • International Levy: N$3,000

The total registration fees amount to N$5,345. This amount must be paid before or on the day of registration for the first semester.

2. Tuition Fees for International Students

UNAM’s tuition fees for international students differ from Namibian and SADC students. For undergraduate programs, the tuition deposit for international students is as follows:

  • First Semester: N$13,800

This deposit is due on or before the day of registration, and at least 60% of the tuition fees must be settled for entry into the first-semester examinations. The remaining 40% must be paid before the second-semester exams.

3. Accommodation Fees for International Students

Accommodation costs at UNAM vary depending on the campus and type of accommodation chosen. Here is a breakdown of the hostel fees for international students:

  • Main/Neudamm/Ogongo/SANUMARC (Breakfast Included): N$22,560 per semester
  • Neudamm – School of Veterinary Medicine (Breakfast Included): N$26,200 per semester
  • Hage Geingob (Breakfast Excluded): N$36,360 per semester

In addition, a wear and tear fee of N$975 is charged on the day of hostel registration, which is non-refundable.

4. Meal Fees

For students opting to have meals at UNAM, the meal fees are as follows:

  • Per Year: N$24,750
  • Per Semester: N$12,375

Meals are optional and charged separately, but students on campus are expected to pay these fees if they want lunch and dinner. Non-bursary students need to pay for meals in advance.

5. Miscellaneous Fees

International students at UNAM will also incur several other fees during their academic journey:

  • Late Registration Fee: N$600
  • Application Fee: N$300
  • Late Application Fee: N$650
  • Transcript of Academic Record: N$110
  • Re-marking of Examination Paper: N$350

It’s important to note that students who register late or fail to make payments on time may face penalties or restrictions on accessing lecture halls, exams, and accommodation.

6. Payment Methods

UNAM offers several payment methods for international students to settle their fees:

  • Online Payments: Students can pay directly through UNAM’s online payment portal for immediate access to registration.
  • Bank Transfers: Payments can be made to UNAM’s designated bank accounts at First National Bank, Standard Bank, Bank Windhoek, or Nedbank. Ensure that the student number is used as the reference to avoid delays.

7. Discounts and Bursaries

Students who settle their tuition fees in full before the end of academic registration are eligible for a 10% discount on tuition fees (excluding additional class fees). Bursary holders are exempt from paying the required deposits, provided they submit proof of sponsorship.
