National Institutional Classification Framework
The National Institutional Classification Framework (NIRF) has been accepted by the Ministry of Education and launched on September 29, 2015 by the Minister of Education. This framework describes the method of classifying national institutions. read more.

History:- Earlier students used to consult Shanghai ranking (academic ranking of world universities) or QS world university rankings which did not take into account the peculiarities of our sub-continent. And there was a fear of bias in the private party rankings. So GoI decided to launch its own ranking framework. NIRF was developed by a 16 member core committee appointed by MHRD.
