The NBI is mandated to investigate/take on the following cases:

  1. Extrajudicial/extra-legal killings by state security forces against media practitioners/activists.
  2. Murders of justices and judges
  3. Violations of the Cybercrime Prevention Act (Republic Act No. 10175)
  4. Cases from the Inter-Agency Anti-Graft Coordinating Council
  5. Anti-Dummy Law cases
  6. Human trafficking cases in all Philippine airports
  7. Cases involving threats to security or assaults against the persons of the President, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court
  8. Transnational crimes based on international agreements
  9. Identification of victims of natural disasters
  10. Violations of:
  • the E-Commerce Act of 2000 (Republic Ac No. 8792);
  • the Access Devices Regulations Act of 1998 (Republic Act No. 8484);
  • the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines (Republic Act No. 8293);
  • the Securities Regulation Code (Republic Act No. 8799);
  • the Decree Increasing the Penalty for Certain Forms of Estafa (Presidential Decree No. 1689)

According to the National Bureau of Investigation, applicants who possess NBI clearances issued from 2014 onwards may renew their NBI clearance without accomplishing a new NBI fingerprint card form No. 5 provided that no changes have been made to their personal data.

To renew NBI clearances, applicants must mail the following:

  • Copy of old NBI clearance
  • Copy of passport data page
  • Two 2 x 2 photos
  • PHP 200 processing fee

Applicants may also send their NBI clearance renewal application through an authorized representative in the Philippines. A letter of authorization is required. Applications coming from abroad are processed at the Mailed Clearance Section of NBI, located on the 3rd floor of the NBI Clearance Building, UN Avenue, Manila. Authorized representatives are advised to proceed to this address to submit documents. Please ensure they bring their authorization letter or Special Power of Attorney and a valid ID.

Processing of applications will take a maximum of five (5) days upon receipt of documents. Further queries and clarifications may be directed to the NBI at 5238231 loc. 5465.

To accomplish a Fingerprint Card at the Embassy (MXN 587.50)

Please bring a copy of your passport and two 2 x 2 photos. The Embassy’s consular staff will take your fingerprints and provide a certification for you to send the NBI.
