Internship Programme 2026
St Andrew’s College, a successful and transforming independent boys’ boarding school in Makhanda is looking to recruit teacher-interns to start in January 2026.
We are looking for people wanting to enter our exciting, exhausting, all-consuming, satisfying profession who will start 2026 with:
- a good undergraduate qualification with two teaching subjects, (final year students are welcome to apply) or students in their second or third year of a
BEd for the FET Phase - energy, passion and commitment to transformation, including mentoring of individual students
- willingness to observe classes, plan lessons, team-teach, and teach
- desire to be mentored and contribute in classroom practice, pastoral care and extramural activities
- willing to study through open distance learning
St Andrew’s undertakes to pay study fees (including a textbook allowance), pay a small stipend, and may be in a position to offer single board and lodging for
Teachers who have completed a BEd or PGCE or who have full SACE registration will not be considered for these internships.

Laidlaw Undergraduate Internship Programme in Research and Leadership
The Laidlaw Undergraduate Internship Programme in Research and Leadership is an exciting new programme and the biggest of its kind in Scotland – aimed at equipping students with the skills and values to become leaders in their chosen occupations beyond University. This is open to students in their penultimate year of study.

The Undergraduate Research Assistant Scheme was developed to promote projects that emphasise the many ways in which Research and Teaching can come together. Undergraduate students interested in this program should approach their school in the first instance to find out what opportunities are available.
